Rescued Ugandans Urge Government to Assist Fellow Citizens Stranded in Myanmar
Ugandan youths who were recently rescued from captivity in Myanmar have called on the government to help their peers who are still being exploited in cyber fraud activities. Led by Muwada Nkunyingi, the Opposition’s Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister, they recounted their distressing experiences of being lured by false job offers and subsequently forced into online scams.
The young people recounted their experiences of being deceived by fraudsters who posed as helpers offering jobs, which ultimately turned out to be traps. After arriving in Myanmar, they found themselves subjected to conditions resembling slavery, where they were forced to engage in online fraud activities without any pay. The rescued youths expressed their sorrow over the situation in Myanmar, where many Ugandans are still being held captive.
Muwada Nkunyingi, the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, urged the government to take action and rescue those who are still stranded. He stressed the importance of immediate measures to protect Ugandans from similar situations.
Muwada also warned Ugandans to be cautious when traveling abroad, advising them to be careful about their contacts and to verify job opportunities thoroughly.
The rescued youths expressed concern about their situation. Having returned home without any financial support, they complained that they had not been paid and were struggling to cope.
Muwada urged the government to support these youths and do more to prevent such situations in the future.
Muwada also called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ugandan embassies in other countries to guide citizens traveling abroad. He emphasized the importance of protecting Ugandans from exploitation and ensuring their safety and well-being.
