schools Recovery Fund

The parliamentary committee of education is seeking assurance from Private school owners that they will cut school fees if the committee approves a request for government to create a recovery fund of 100 million shillings per school ahead of reopening in January.

The Committee interacted with MPs moving this motion and justified the cause to bailout schools.

Three MPs led by Kyankwanzi District Woman Representative Christine Ndiwalana, Michael Mawanda of Igara West and Muhammad Kibedi Nsegumire of Mityana North who recently introduced a motion on the floor urging the government to rescue the private schools financially before the re-opening of schools in January appeared before the committee and justified their motion

77% of secondary schools are private, in primary they are 48%, 73% at a tertiary level whereas preprimary level is 100% private. MPs contend that government alone can’t manage to run the sector without private schools.
They asked the committee that each private school at least should be given a loan of 100 million shillings for renovation and pay back the money in five years after the reopening of schools.

Lawmakers have refuted allegations that private schools charge high school dues than public ones; with evidence that the majority of the government-aided schools in Wakiso, Luwero, Mukono, and Kampala charge heavily more than private schools.

The MPs led by Abigaba Mirembe Cuthbert the vice-chairperson of the committee also Luwero woman MP Nabukenya Brenda want assurance that if the schools receive relief to be in a position to pay the arrears for the teachers who have been starving during covid-19 and accept to cut school fee

In case this committee approves the motion of supporting all the private schools with 100 million shillings it over 4000 private schools are in line to benefit.
