Over 4,200 Govt Leaders To Face Law Over Wealth.

Over 4,200 government leaders are likely to be prosecuted and sanctioned by the Inspectorate of Government before the Leadership Code Tribunal for not declaring their income, assets, and liabilities before the deadline.

This comes after President Yoweri Museveni yesterday assented to the Leadership Code amendment act that requires all public officials to declare their assets, income, and liabilities to the Inspector General of Government within the period of three months from the commencement of the Act.

The Deputy Inspectorate General of Government Mariam Wangadya told the media in Kampala that the declaration deadline elapsed on April 23, 2021, and the process to investigate noncompliance commenced with only 20778 leaders declared out of the 25,000 that were expected to comply.

Wangadya further says that an estimated number of new categories of at least 400,000 Public officers will be required to submit their declaration before July 23rd this year using the IG online Declaration System (IG-ODS).

However, Wangadya releases a list of 15 non-complaint institutions and districts that include Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC, Uganda Heart Institute, Mandera National Stadium, and the National Unity Platform (NUP) which only has 24 leaders complied as well as other 15 most compliance lead by President and Vice.
