The head of the state house drug monitoring unit Dr.Warren Namara reveals that drugs over UGX.1.5 billions was recovered from Dr. Waiswa’s clinic in Nansana.
Speaking to the media today in Kampala, Dr. Namara confirms that people doing such illegal acts are causing a big loss to ugandans who get to health facilities and find no drugs.
He adds that they have clues to the way about of Dr. Waiswa and very soon he will be netted and taken to court to answer several charges.
The drug unit further notes that the racket is big and involves workers in government health facilities and the joint medical stores whose numbers are now numbered.
The continued theft of drugs from public health facilities and stores continue to deprive Ugandans of free and easy access to basic health services sometimes leading to deaths or developing serious health complications by the patient. Some of the drugs the unit recovered include,ARVs, antibiotics anti fungus among others which the unit says are stolen, repackaged and sold within uganda and others exported to DRC, Rwanda, S.Sudan and other countries.
