Members of parliament yesterday broke silence on President Yoweri Museveni, who blasted them last week for appropriating 10bn shillings to themselves in the guise of fighting Covid- 19. Museveni opposed parliament on moral and legal grounds before directing legislators to return the money to their district Task-forces to mitigate the burden of shame.
The Chief Opposition Whip Ibrahim Semujju Nganda accused president Museveni of belittling parliament by interfering with its mandate of appropriation.
MPs questioned where the president derives a moral authority to accuse parliament of greed and lavish expenditure claiming state house receives a huge unjustifiable budget of over 400bn shillings.
Legislators also weighed down the 1.4m contribution of president Museveni to the National Covid-19 task-force, claiming it was unreasonable and a mockery to the country.
speaker Kadaga tried to calm-down the tough speaking members of parliament but all in vain and the Aruu county mp Odonga Otto asked Kadaga to excuse herself from the debate if she is not comfortable.
However during plenary yesterday speaker Kadaga told the MPs to use the money, reiterating her earlier directive to MPs to use the Shs20m to buy food for their people.
