MPs Ask Govt TO Bailout AMIN’S Widow Madinah

The parliament has tasked the government to rescue the former first lady Madina Amin, the wife of the former president of Uganda Idi Amin Dada who is said to be grappling with medical bills.

The August house has also directed the ministry of public service to present a ministerial statement before parliament to explain the status of emoluments of the former presidents and implementation of the Presidential Emoluments Act.

The matter of the former First Lady Madina Amin was brought to the attention of parliament by the Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Semujju Nganda, saying the former wife of President Idi Amin Dada is struggling with medical bills in a one Hospital where her child is receiving treatment.

Hon Semujju informed the house that the Madinah is not even receiving monthly emoluments which are entitled to families of former Presidents under the presidential emoluments Act. He complained that the government discriminates against Amin’s family by denying it emoluments yet families of other former presidents get their entitlements.

The government through the Chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa and the state minister of public service David Karubanga committed before parliament to take an instant action to save the former First Lady and save the country from embarrassment.

But the deputy speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah directed the ministry of public service to make a ministerial statement before parliament to explain the state of implementation of the Presidential Emoluments Act and details of the beneficiaries

Madina Amin was the fourth wife of President Idi Amin. The Parliament of Uganda approved the Emoluments and Benefits of the President, Vice President, and Prime Minister Bill 2009, governing the salaries, allowances, and retirement benefits of those officials as well as entitlements of their surviving family members.
