Government records a significant drop in COVID 19 cases in the past two weeks.
Addressing parliament on the country’s COVID 19 response, the Leader of government business Robinah Nabanja said this is what the lockdown was intended for, to slow down the rapid transmission and restore health systems that had been over-stretched and degraded by the huge patient numbers.
Nabanja says that given the long incubation period of the virus of 14 days, scientists and the Ministry of Health had predicted that the reversal may happen after 34 days but Preliminary epidemiological and clinical data shows that the country may have passed the peak of the current wave.
Nabanja says the public must be cautious on this apparent downward trend, given that COVID-19 is unpredictable.
Nabanja adds that the government is enhancing measures to interrupt transmission of COVID-l9 among healthcare workers and the communities, streamlining and strengthening Home-Based Care for COVID19 and Continuing with vaccination.
