There has been confusion and drama at the National Resistance Movement party headquarters as the party’s electoral commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi disagreed with the secretariat heads on the planned dates for the party to hold its elections roadmap.
Speaking at a joint press conference today at plot 10 kyadondo the party headquarters, Dr.Tanga expressed worries over the new roadmap, saying it is completely away from what the polls commission had set and will be time-consuming to the party’s electoral commission.
How the party’s Secretary-General Hon. Kasule Lumumba and the new head of communication and publicity Hon. Emmanuel Dombo disagreed with Dr. Tanga by reminding him that all that is being done was carefully discussed and agreed upon yesterday in the party’s Central Executive Committee.
Dr. Tanga then called for more time for his team to unpack the roadmap to suit the new changes.
After two and a half hours, the party’s electoral commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi appeared again at the secretariat where he finally released a revised party electoral roadmap running from 20th July to August 2020.
At around 2:30 pm today the chairperson of the party’s electoral commission released the revised roadmap to the media.
According to the roadmap, which starts on Monday the 20th with presidential aspirants picking forms at the party polls commission will be climaxed in August with the delegates conference where the Central Executive Committee will nominate the presidential flag bearer and regional party chairpersons.
Between July and August, the party will be welcoming members aspiring to contest for various elective positions picking forms expressing interest to contest in the party’s elections to be party flag bearers in the coming general elections.
To make it unique, the party will be electing its presidential flag bearer in August even when the current national chairman who has for over the years been the party’s presidential flag bearer.
Last year during the central executive committee which sat at Kyobe lodge in Apac district, they announced, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as their sole candidate for the post of president.
The party’s head of communications, Hon. Emmanuel Dombo in a laud voice boost of having 17.2 million voters in the party register.
