Covid money for next week

By Admin

The state minister of Gender Charles Okello Engola has today told the parliamentary Covid-19 task force that the disbursement of Covid-19 relief funds will have to wait for up to next week to allow the display of registers to the public for verification.

This was after a heated interface with MPs who questioned the integrity of the registers and the competence of the registration process.

Member of the parliamentary Covid-19 task force today faced off with officials of the ministry of gender over the delayed disbursement of the Covid-19 relief cash. The committee questioned the integrity of the lists of the Vulnerable poor people and cited inconsistencies in the process of generating registers.

The task force chairperson Abdu Katuntu slammed the ministry of gender for taking the process of delivering relief aid too slow which is creating unnecessary anxiety and stress in the public.

The state minister of Labour Charles Okello Engola who represented the minister of gender Betty Amongi laboured to explain to the committee why town councils were ignored from the relief plan yet they are Urban centres.

After squeezing the minister, he revealed that payment of relief funds will start next week because they still have to display registers for verification.

MPs supported the decision to halt the disbursement of Covid-19 financial support until the registers of the vulnerable people are displayed to the target communities for cross-checking.

The ministry of gender was given the mandate to manage Covid relief funds. The minister of gender Betty Amongi assured the country yesterday that they will start sending mobile money to the vulnerable households tomorrow on Thursday.
