Cabinet led by the Rt. Hon. Prime minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has today toured the women specialized hospital at Mulago saying this is one of the signs to show that govt is ready to deliver on its commitment.
The hospital housing 450 beds will handle specialized and complicated cases to do with maternal and neonatal health as this is to prevent Ugandans from rushing to India and other developed countries for specialized treatment.
Rugunda confirms that some of the patients will be required to pay for services to ensure service maintenance.
However, the minister of state in charge of primary health, Hon. Sara Opendi confirms that the center cost govt USD.47 M through a loan from the Arab development bank to see that Ugandan women are given the best health care they deserve.
She adds that the facility has a presidential suite which tells how modern the facility is.
The executive director, Mulago hospital, Dr. Baterana Byarugaba reveals that patients referred to this facility will not have to come with clothes since the facility will be providing them to patients.
Previously Mulago national referral hospital was heavily congested. All departments experienced the congestion but the situation was worse in the women’s section of delivery and management of diseases related to women.
