Kibale district woman mp Noeline Basemera Kisembo has petitioned parliament asking it to prevail over the decision of National Forest Authority ( NFA) awarding tenders to people from various parts of the country to plant trees in the central forest reserve and ignoring the local people.
Speaking before parliament, chaired by deputy speaker Jacob Oulanya, Basemera said that awarding the program of planting trees to other people and ignoring most people in Kibale may bring insecurity in the area.
Basemera noted with concern that many people from Kibale applied to be involved in the tree planting program when National Forest Authority advertised however many of them have been left out which is unfortunate.
In response the government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa informed parliament that the minister in charge of forests will liaise with the people of Kibale to ensure that the local communities are involved.
