Buganda Kingdom Mourns Oulanyah

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has called upon members of parliament to prioritize the interests of the common person in memory of the late Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah who was an advocate of the common man’s interest.

Katikkiro was visiting parliament to sign in Oulanya’s condolence, from where the speaker of parliament Anita Among pledged to settle the Buganda kingdom’s longstanding issues with the central government.

The delegation from Mengo led by the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga was received by the speaker Anita Among, her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, the Leader of the Opposition Mathias Mpuuga and the Chairperson of Buganda Caucus, Muwanga Kivumbi. They were led to the parliament lobby to sing in the condolence book.

Afterward paying his respects and signing the condolence book in honor of Oulanyah Mayiga addressed journalists together with the speaker and eulogized Oulanyah as a man who left behind a great legacy of peace and Reconciliation that has even manifested after his death.

The Katikkiro Mayiga has called upon legislators to prioritize the interests of the common person in aspects of education, health, and economy in memory of the late Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah who was the common man’s advocate.

Mayiga also congratulated Speaker Anita Among and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa on their elevation to the new offices and pledged good working relations with them.

The Speaker  Anita Among pledged to support the Buganda kingdom to settle its long-standing issues with the central government especially matters of outstanding rent arrears for Kingdom properties occupied by the central government. She gave a timeline of two weeks.

Mayiga proceeded to pay a curtsey visit to the office of the leader of opposition where he met members of the Buganda caucus and urged them to prioritize the interests of the kingdom in their deliberations.

The Katikkiro was accompanied by members of the Buganda cabinet who included Deputy Speaker Ahmed Lwasa, the Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Hajjati Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja, and the Minister for Heritage and Tourism  David Kyewalabye Male.
