Parliament has started preparations for swearing-in of the 11th parliament which will run from 17th to 20th May.

It has been disclosed that the speaker of the 11th parliament will be elected from Kololo Independence grounds in the bid to observe social distance and other covid-19 SOPs.

MPs will not be allowed to carry more than three people to parliament on the swearing day.

At the parliament of Uganda building, rehearsals have started in preparation for the swearing ceremony of the elected members of the 11th parliament. Officers in charge of the event, have today started drills to prepare themselves for the four days event which will run between 17th to 20th May this year

In corridors of parliament, civil works are taking place in the bid to create more office space for MPs. Some committee rooms have been partitioned into offices to create extra space to accommodate the 529 MPs of the 11th parliament.
According to the spokesperson of parliament Hellen Kaweesa, they have secured enough space for new MPs from within and outside parliament.

With covid 19 restrictions, Elected MPs will not have a luxury of fun fare and merrymaking as they have been restricted to only three people to accompany them. Over 100 MPs will be sworn in on a daily basis with each provided five minutes to summarize their oath.

Like never before the election of the speaker is scheduled to take place on 21st May, will be hosted at Kololo Independence grounds to provide enough space to observe Covid 19 SOPs

MPs are divided on the guidelines of the swearing ceremony as some are opposed to the limiting of the people to accompany them to three. But others are positive with the guidelines in the view of controlling the spread of Covid-19

New MPs are yet to receive their invitations and it’s not known when the 10th parliament will finish business.
