Yumbe District Chairperson Calls On NRM Party to Drop Method of Lining up to Party Flag-bearers

Yumbe district LC 5 chairman Taban Yassin has called upon the National Resistance Movement NRM party to drop the method of lining up to vote for the party flag bearers to stop election malpractices that recently hit the party elections.
He made the remarks while interfacing with journalists in Kampala over the just concluded NRM primaries in Yumbe district LC 5 NRM party elections in which he lost to Asiku Abdul as the incumbent.
He said that the party should return to secret ballot voting to avoid violence and other irregularities.
He claims that most of the Yumbe district NRM flag bearers are fake because they connived with security and participated in many irregularities to win over their opponents in the party primaries.
Mr. Taban condemned irregularities and malpractices which dominated NRM primaries. He described the recent primaries as the most sham in the history of the party.
“Previous elections are not like the elections today, this current elections of NRM have been marred by a lot of irregularities, what we have witnessed is so chaotic that in some areas our candidate agents were sent away, in some cases declaration forms were not even filed, Mr. Yassin narrated.
He however blamed his loss to the interference of security and the RDC of the district who alleged manipulated elections in favor of other candidates by intimidating voters. He claims that most of the Yumbe district NRM flag bearers are fake because they connived with security and participated in many irregularities to win over their opponents in the party primaries
He tasked party leadership to streamline the party voters register in order to avoid endless conflicts which manifest whenever NRM goes to vote
He added that he will not contest as an independent candidate and pledged to support the person who defeated him in order to canvas votes for the party.
