President Yoweri Museveni has threatened to withdraw licenses of traders who are hiking prices of commodities amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
He sounded the warning while addressing the nation on COVID-19 following the rise of the victims to 9 in the country.
The president says he is going to employ spies who will despise as buyers and withdraw the licenses from the traders and never give them back.
“the crooks hiking the price of food, we shall cancel your license. Uganda has always had food, what has changed to make the prices soar-? “Don’t lead us into temptation , but deliver us from evil”. The president said
He also said he may organize NRM cadres to bring food here and sell directly to people in the city to do away with the traders who are exploiting Ugandans.
Meanwhile, the president has implored Ugandans who recently returned from Dubai and other high- risk countries and are not under institutional quarantine to come out and get tested since COVID-19 is curable.
He’s says by hiding, these people are not only endangering themselves but also endangering other Ugandans.
To solve the problem of public transport, the president said they may consider temporarily shifting to the bicycles and suspend the long-distance transport.
Talked to luwero industries to urgently put up the bicycles factory, I also talked to Babra Mulwana and to Amelia Kyambadde to see what we can do to revive the roadmaster factory of bicycles in Namanve. That may have to be the answer if the virus persists we shall have to get rid of the public transport” Museveni said.
