Update on Covid-19- ministry of health calls off TB National event

The ministry of health has called off the World Tuberculosis Day national commemoration event amidst COVID 19 scare in the country.
Observed on 24 March each year, World Tuberculosis Day, is designed to build public awareness about the global epidemic of tuberculosis and efforts to eliminate the disease.
The national commemoration was planned to be in Lira district under the theme “It’s time to end TB stigma, its every ones role” however according to the minister of health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng the event will not happen as planned in an effort to prevent the COVID 19.
“It is a big public gathering and as many of you are aware in this era where we have the COVID pandemic we want as much as possible to avoid overcrowding to maintain a social distance of 1 meter because where there is overcrowding if there is any one with COVID that’s where the infection will spread because its droplet infection” the minister said
As of today, Uganda has no confirmed case of coronavirus which started in Wuhan city in China and has so far spread to over 100 countries with 169,373 cases worldwide and over 6,475 deaths as of March 16, 2020.
President Yoweri Museveni is due to address the nation tomorrow on Uganda’s preparedness to prevent the spread of the virus into the country
