By Nassiwa Hanifah Samula
As the speaker of parliament Rebecca Aritwala kadaga continues to receive congratulatory messages upon her recovery, members of the Uganda parliamentary press Association have paid a courtesy call to the speaker to celebrate her return. The journalists together with the (UPPA) president Moses Mulondo have expressed their gratitude to God to having brought back speaker Kadaga safe and sound after a sudden critical illness and continue to pray for her long life.
Mr. Mulondo used this chance to ask the speaker who is the patron of the parliamentary press Association to speak out on the injustices done on to journalists with the recent being Godfrey Mutabazi’s directive to suspend senior journalists for airing out MP Robert kyagulanyi’s news stories.
Mulondo also expressed to the speaker the need for financial help towards the journalists’ Sacco and that they wish there was a way of parliament supporting them. Speaker kadaga who warmly thanked the journalists for welcoming her back has expressed her displeasure towards the injustices carried against the journalists as they carry out their duties. “For me I will not stop speaking out, am ready” says the speaker who has assured journalists that she is ready to speak out on injustices no matter what.
Speaker kadaga has also promised the journalists that she will see how parliament can help their sacco and will let them know on her findings in a period of three months.
