Us Donates HIV Drugs Worth  8M USD To Faith-Based Medical Facilities

Us Donates HIV Drugs Worth  USD 8M To Faith-Based Medical Facilities

The US government through its development agency, USAID has donated a consignment of HIV/AIDS drugs to Uganda under a newly launched five years program dubbed, private not-for-profit HIV commodity procurement activity that will be run by joint medical stores across the country.

Speaking at the launch of the USD.295 million programs, USAID mission director Richard Nelson who represented the US ambassador to Uganda reminded Uganda of having in place improved procurement and supply chains for effective drugs delivery to the last beneficiaries of the lives of innocent Ugandans are to be improved.

The state minister for health in charge of general duties Hanifah Kawoya thanked the US govt for the continued support to Ugandans saying that, this has supplemented the government‘s efforts to scale down new infections among the population.

Dr. Bildard Baguma, the executive director of joint medical stores confirms that the first consignment of ARVs worth USD.8M will be supplied to faith-based and NGO-based medical facilities currently running HIV/AIDS programs to help provide drugs to HIV patients.

Uganda has over 1.5 million HIV patients on treatment.
