In a bid to find out whether international financing to Uganda towards climate adaptation in realizing its set targets, Ugandan CSO environmental management for livelihood improvement (EMLI) in partnership with Care international Uganda are to carry out a study to track climate adaptation financing projects.

According to the deputy executive director Robert Bakika and program officer, Jalia Namubiru the three months project to be executed by EMLI- Bwaise facility is intended

to assess the flow of climate adaptation financing in Uganda of international financial flows over a period of 4 years, between 2013 and 2016 by examining and tracking the ‘international’ financial flows, documenting key lessons learned for future adoption and reporting and whether the pledges made by development partners are always fulfilled.

Meanwhile, the initiative manager for partners for resilience at Care international Uganda, Monica Anguparo adds that there are many climate adaptation programs receiving funds from development partners and have not fully realized positive results.

This then calls for assessment to see how much is pumped into climate adaptation and how best the financing can be put to proper use for the targeted beneficiaries to register positive impacts out of the programs.

Over 20 projects are to be assessed among them being projects funded under the sector  budget support for rural water supply and joint partnership fund basket supported by Demark, global climate change alliance scaling up agriculture adaptation to climate change in Uganda supported by EU, Strengthening livelihood programmes and food security in Karamoja supported by UK among other programmes.

It’s estimated that development partners have financed climate adaptation programs in Uganda since 2013-16 to a tune of USD. 200M with an estimated needs averaging at USD.2.9Bn.
