11 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Uganda, raising the total number to 44 cases in the country.
In an address to the nation today President Museveni said that Out of 176 samples tested, 11 were found to be positive”
All the new cases are reported to be children of Watoto Church Choir who recently arrived in the country from abroad. All have been in quarantine.
President Museveni clarified that vehicles for essential workers including bankers, utility service providers, and the media will have stickers issued by the Ministry of Works. However, the vehicles must carry only one person.
He added that members of the diplomatic core are allowed to drive to and from the supermarkets and back to their residents and from hospitals then back their residents.
on the outcry for protective gear for health workers, president Museveni said MOH is making arrangements to procure them, but the government is working on an arrangement to have them manufactured in Uganda. explaining that local factories have the capacity to produce face masks.
He said the problem of sanitizers is going to be solved locally as some local manufacturers are now producing them locally.
He warned against opportunistic individuals’ who are risking lives of Ugandans giving out donations to communities, saying it is criminal, and offenders will be charged with attempted murder whose Bail will not be allowed for the offense.
He said he deliberately introduced a surprise ban on private vehicles to stop the stampede of people moving from the city to other parts of the country which puts lives of locals in rural areas at risk of contracting the disease. He, however, said he has directed police to release vehicles that were impounded yesterday .
