Uganda Cancer Institute and Uganda Communications Commission In joint effort to improve cancer communication through Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system.
Interactive voice response (IVR) is a technology that allows a computer to interact with humans through the use of voice and DTMF tones input via a keypad. This will allow all people to call in the UCI and they get answers 24/7 through the toll free line 0800100800.
“This is an initiate that started in June 2019 under phase on. The two entities have come together to put efforts into phase two, the success of the project will enable us extend services to the entire country.”Dr. Mulira, the chair of the RCDF committee of the Communications Commission.
In his remarks, Dr. Noleb Mugisha who represented the Executive Director of the UCI conveyed his sincere gratitude to the UCC for their efforts to improve not only communication but cancer communication in the country. He also promised to extend free cancer screening and awareness services to the UCC.
Cancer is a looming global health problem that kills more people than accidents, AIDS and malaria combined and having the UCC come in to help UCI in implementation of this initiative is very timely.
At the event, a cheque of UGx 100,000,000/- was handed over to the Uganda Cancer Institute to enable implementation of phase two where more languages will be included into the IVR system.
This followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two entities that will last for three years.
