By Damba Rogers
Taxi operators in Kampala metropolitan under the hospice of joint taxi operators consortium confirm forwarding over 15000 beneficiaries to the covid-19 national task force who will recieve UGX.100,000 as government relief.
According to the leadership of of the consortium led by Musatafah Mayambala, taxi operators are going through hard economic times hence the urgent need for help from government.
The leaders also state that many taxi operators have been left out of the ongoing village covid19 relief registration exercise and think that through their consortium, the right persons will recieve help from government.
Though 15000 have been presented to govt out of 53000 the operators would love to see over 50000 helped.
Meanwhile, Mayambala together with Sowedi Sendagire are advising government to install trackers in their taxis and later deduct the charges off the taxes paid to government.
The advise from the taxi operators comes at a time when taxi operators are also facing hard economic times making it very hard for them to afford paying for the devises.
The taxi operators who are willing to have the devises installed in their cars, are highly worried that the devises might spoil their engines the way speed governors did to the car engines in the earlier exercise.
And now they demand for serious explanations from government in regard to the coming exercise.
