Statehouse Seeks 402 For FY 2022/2023
Statehouse is seeking approval from Parliament of a 402.2bn budget for 2022/2023 financial year, including Shs39Bn to repair State House Entebbe and the other upcountry lodges.
The request was disclosed by Peter Ogwang, State Minister for Economic Monitoring while appearing before the Presidential Affairs Committee to present the 2022/2023 National Budget Framework Paper for State House.
According to Ogwang, in order to maintain Entebbe State House to the required standard, there are required repairs to take place at Nakasero state lodge and 23 upcountry state lodges.
The repairs will cost Shs39.358Bn; however, only Shs12.338Bn has been availed in the budget, leaving a funding gap of Shs27.02Bn. of this money, Shs12.74Bn will go towards the refurbishment of the Entebbe State House complex at Shs12.74Bn.
State House also intends to spend Shs13.468Bn on procurement of security equipment and Shs13.15Bn towards replacing the old fleet which will see the purchase of 14cars.
The statehouse is also complaining about the little money that has been allocated for the president’s travels abroad. 6.7bn has been allocated by the ministry of finance to facilitate travels of the president and the vice president but statehouse officials claim it’s not enough.
State House also plans to spend 249.039Bn on Logistical support, welfare, and security provided to the President, Vice President, and their immediate families. And this will fund the 1750 programs both the President and Vice President will conduct.
Additionally, the State House is also seeking for Shs109.731Bn to mobilize masses towards poverty reduction, peace, and development, but only Shs87.221Bn was allocated leaving a funding gap of Shs22.510Bn.
