Ssenyonyi Calls for Supplementary Budget for Arts Teachers.

The Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi has urged the government to present a supplementary budget to fund the salary increments of Arts Teachers’ arguing that it’s essential to resolve the strike and get teachers back to class.

Ssenyonyi highlighted the disparity in salaries between Arts and Science teachers, noting that Science teachers earn four times more, despite Arts teachers playing a crucial role in education. He urged the government to reconsider its budget allocation to address this imbalance.

However, Finance Minister Matia Kasaija expressed reservations about presenting a supplementary budget, citing current financial constraints.

The Government chief whip Dennis Hamson Obua and State Minister for Higher Education Dr. JC Muyingo have assured parliament that negotiations are ongoing to resolve the Impasse.
