Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has called on residents of Mayuge District to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the 2026 general elections, citing the government’s progress in infrastructure, community development, and security as key factors in continuing Uganda’s stability and growth.
Addressing a gathering of locals in Mayuge, Among outlined several government initiatives aimed at empowering communities, particularly those in the fishing industry. Among highlighted the ongoing Parish Development Model (PDM), under which each parish would receive UGX 15 million to improve local infrastructure and welfare.
“This support will go towards benefiting local leaders like LC1s, NRM chairpersons, and councillors, with the aim of improving service delivery at the grassroots level,” Among explained.
She also reassured residents that the government is addressing critical issues such as land disputes, forest conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices, citing that President Museveni has been at the forefront of these initiatives.
“The road network, which spans over 6,000 kilometers, has been integrated into the national development plan,” Among said. “The forest issue is being handled directly by the President, and no one will be allowed to illegally grab land or resources.”
Among also focused on President Museveni’s stance on family values and national unity, urging voters to reject political figures who she claims promote “divisive” or “unrealistic” ideals.
“There are some who are asking for a protest vote,” she said. “But I urge you to think critically about who can bring lasting peace and prosperity to Uganda. President Museveni is the only leader who has consistently worked to protect our values, our culture, and our country.”
Reflecting on her own political journey, Among emphasized the importance of tangible achievements over political rhetoric, underscoring that the NRM government has delivered on promises of infrastructure development, healthcare, and education.
“In the past, when I was in opposition, we often criticized without offering real solutions,” she admitted. “But today, if you look around, you can see the progress we’ve made—schools, roads, hospitals, and improved security across the country.”
Among encouraged residents to remain united, saying that Uganda’s progress depends on collective efforts from all sectors of society. She also reaffirmed her commitment to supporting local leaders and community projects.
“My office is always open to hear your concerns and provide assistance. What we need most right now is unity,” Among said. “Together, we can continue to build the Uganda we want.”
