Speaker Among Calls EACJ On Non-Tariff Barriers.
The speaker of parliament Anita Among has urged the East African Court of Justice to address issues on non-tariff barriers that affect some EAC member states from enjoying free market access to other partner states which undermines the progress of unity.
Among was speaking to the president of the East African Court of Justice Nestor Kayobera who paid a courtesy visit to the Parliament of Uganda.
While meeting a delegation from the East African Court of Justice led by the President, Nestor Kayobera today, the speaker of parliament Anita Among urged the East African court to address issues if not tariff barriers that are limiting some countries in the community to access markets. Among mentioned the case of poultry products dealers who face resistance to exporting eggs to the Kenyan market.
Among welcomed the 2nd Annual East African Court of Justice Judicial Conference scheduled to take place from the 26th – 28th October 2022 in Kampala which will be preceded by Court Sessions in November 2022 saying it will help the people of Uganda to appreciate and understand how the court operates in order to make use of it.
The speaker also called upon the East African Court of Justice, which serves as the region’s Judicial Arm, to uphold and safeguard the Rule of Law.
The EACJ President Kayobera appealed to the Ugandan parliament to elect Members of Parliament to EALA who can understand the agenda of the EAC community in the upcoming EALA elections.
