Police has beefed up deployments at all the 103 non gazatted boarder points in Uganda to curb illegal entrance into the country.
This after President Museveni ordered the closure of all Ugandan borders including on land, sea and air as one of the ways to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to our reporter, police spokesperson Fred Enanga says all the border points have been beffed up with additional officers to ensure adherence to this boarder lock down.
He says some of the deployments are in form of foot and motorised patrols.
He says the prominent areas of Elegu and Lamo in Aswa region, the Eastern side of Busia Malaba Rwakaka access and the Western side from Ntoroko going down up to Bwera upto Kanungu then the Southern sides bordering Rwanda and Tanzania are all under tight security watch.
”we were having an influx of people from Tanzania and also Kenya that were trying to brave the waters and come to migingo islands but our enforcement unit there was able to push them back to where they were coming from” Enanga says
Uganda confirmed its 1st COVID-19 case at Entebbe Airport on Saturday involving a Ugandan male who was from Dubai.
