Parliament Tasks UNBS, NDA & UCC to Crackdown Energy Drinks.

Parliament Tasks UNBS, NDA & UCC to Crackdown Energy Drinks.

The parliamentary committee on trade directed UNBS and the National Drug authority to revoke licenses from manufacturers of Energy drinks who disguise their products as curative health products to mislead the Public.

The committee has detained one Fazhil Wabulembo who represented Mukama Nayamba energy Drink Company to record statements with police after it was discovered that the company’s adverts violate health laws and standards of the land.

In the heated Trade Committee meeting, members faulted officials from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards, National drug Authority and Uganda communication commission for sleeping on Job and failed to crackdown manufacturers of Energy drinks who have continuously misled the public to take unsafe substances.

Flares and queries dominated the meeting as the Trade committee of parliament grilled officials from NDA led Denis Mwesigwa, UNBS led by David Livingstone Ebiru, UCC led by  Nyombi Thembo for failing to carry out their supervisory role on the rampant quack energy drink which are disguised as health concoctions to mislead the population.

The furious committee members tasked Officials from Uganda communication commissions and National Drug Authority to revoke all licenses of all these energy drinks for further verification.

Fazhil Wobulembo from Mukama Nayamba energy drink was detained by police CIID attached to parliament for further interrogation for misleading the public through exaggerated adverts.

The committee has given the three government agencies one week to act.
