The Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) has intensified the rolling out of new vehicle and motorcycle digital number plates to reduce road crimes and detect traffic violators.
Since 2021 the Intelligent Transport Monitoring system introduced by the joint stock company “Global security” as one of the ways to transform the whole system of uganda road traffic by installing digital number plates, CCTV ,fibre –optic data transmission lines and Uganda police force command data centers and the key objective of this project is to reduce crime ,foster law-traffic obedience and build safe road environment.

ITMS is getting ready to roll out nationwide for private vehicles and motorcycles to make it possible for police to track the lost or stolen cars country wide.
The ITMS system uses advanced technology to detect all the traffic violators responsible for unsafe driving practices and making it impossible for offenders to continue breaking the rules without paying fines .
The system technology will enable accurate recording of all incidents of road traffic which will help the law enforcement officers to promptly find the culprits .
The current vehicle owners were given two years to transition to the new system.
In a meeting with the media at Bugolobi Royale Suits in Kampala, the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System managers revealed that they have produced over 40,000 digital number plates in the last four months.
They revealed that on a daily basis they are producing 300 sets of number plates and expecting to increase the daily production in the next two months as they capture number plates of vehicles with old number plates.
The public Relations Officer with the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System, Priscah Pearl Ayesiga said that currently several vehicles and motorcycles issued with sets of digital number plates can be tracked in case of theft or accident.
