The State Minister, for health in charge of general duties, Sarah opendi says there is need to amend the local government Act to have a provision that blocks illiterate people from vying for political positions at all local government levels.
According to her due to lack of this provision is the reason why political leaders at local councils, parishes among others are being allowed to participate on different positions yet their levels of education cannot help them to fully monitor and inspect government activities for better service delivery.
She was speaking while officiating the launch of a new report dubbed ‘’ Achieving equity in health, are public private partnerships the solution?
The report published by initiative for social and economic rights (ISER) indicates that to achieve universal health coverage, investing in a quality and equitable public health system should be prioritized both by the government and donors.
The minister has also used the same platform to warn medical workers to stop spending all their time on whatsapp and social media instead of serving the communities.
