The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum on Ethics and Integrity James Nsaba Buturo has decried the deteriorating misconduct among members of parliament and blamed gullible voters for making uninformed decisions.
Buturo was launching the second National Conference on Ethics and Integrity which will be officiated by the first Lady Janet Kataha Museveni this week.
The former minister of ethics and integrity who is now a chairperson of the parliamentary forum on ethics and integrity James Nsaba Buturo (MP Bufumbira East) has come out to express grave concerns over what he termed deteriorating moral fiber among members of parliament which has escalated cases of misconduct in the house and poor quality of debate.
Addressing the press at parliament ahead of the 2nd National Conference on Ethics and Integrity slated for Wednesday at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, Butuuro noted that the gullible electorate have seen haphazard people joining parliament which is a big problem to the country. He says many young legislators have got “Tolina Kyotugamba” attitude.
Now members of the Parliamentary Forum on Ethics and Integrity, have invited leaders of parliament to invest much in the induction of legislators, to shape young lawmakers to observe decorum. They also want the public sensitized to make informed choices during elections.
The First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni will officiate as a chief guest at the second National Conference on Ethics and Integrity. The fight against corruption is highlighted among the top topical discussions. This year the Rules, discipline and Privileges Committee of Parliament has had three inquiries of misconduct of members of parliament.
