Muni university has donated to Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) 3.5 Acres of land to construct Arua Regional Cancer Center in an effort to bring services near to the people of west Nile and beyond.

Currently, the Institute is having its operations in Arua Regional Referral Hospital where breast and cervical cancer screening are being done.

According to Executive Director Dr. Jackson Orem, this will reduce the Burden of patients traveling a long way to receive treatment in Kampala once the center is in place.

The UCI Board representative and Executive Director Hold a meeting with clinic staff at the Clinic.

The government’s plan of setting up cancer centers in the country is due to the increased patient burden at Uganda Cancer Institute, in Kampala, where 4,500 to 6,000 new cancer patients have registered annually.

The Government set up cancer centers at Mbarara and Arua Regional Referral hospitals as a way of extending services closer to people.

Early this year Uganda government signed a financing agreement worth Euro 7.5 million (about Shs33 billion) with the Republic of Austria for the establishment of a regional Cancer center in Omoro in Northern Uganda.
