Police in Kampala have arrested a man accused of making counterfeit disinfectants and sanitizers at his home.
The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango identifies the suspect as Stephen Knight a resident of Nsambya central zone in Makindye division Kampala.
Following a tip-off from area residents, officers from Katwe police station went to the scene of the crime, conducted a search and recovered several items including bottles containing liquid with a sticker leveled life care diagnostic, an alcohol meter, empty jerricans, bottles, measuring cylinders, stickers, tunnels, tubes, and boxes.
Onyango says the suspect was then arrested and admits that he is not authorized to manufacture the said products.
He is currently detained at katwe police station on charges of dealing in counterfeit products.
“National Drug Authority and Uganda National Bureau of Standards have been brought on board as part of the team to investigate the matter,” Onyango says.
He appealed to the public to be on a lookout for counterfeit sanitizers and also inform police of any illegal activities in their area.
