House Pays Special Tribute To Queen Elizabeth II.

Members of parliament have today held a special sitting to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth who passed on 8th September 2022 at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

A motion to pay tribute which was debated and adopted by the entire parliament was moved by prime minister Robinah Nabbanja and seconded by the representative of the leader of the opposition Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi.

Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja led Government in paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth saying she had a special bond with Uganda, having visited the nation twice in her lifetime which was something special.

Muwanga Kivumbi (Butambala County) who represented the Leader of Opposition scoffed at some African leaders who have emulated Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign to cling to power. Kivumbi noted that many leaders have chosen to blind themselves from the fact that the queen was leading.

According to the Opposition, the success of Queen Elizabeth’s reign, affirms the validity of cultural intuitions in advancing social transformation and development. They also urged Ugandans to use Queen Elizabeth’s death and life to demystify the norm that men can’t be heirs to women and vice-versa.

MPs poured glowing tribute to Queen Elizabeth for fostering a good foundation for the development of Uganda, some praising the British Monarch for constructing the Parliament chambers, a place they call home.

A section of legislators has paid tribute to fallen United Kingdom monarch leader, Queen Elizabeth, by praising colonialism for helping them learn and speak English, saying the foreign language has brought Uganda together as a family.

The shadow minister of foreign affairs Muwada Nkunyingi used the moment to challenge the government to use the week of mourning to release political prisoners in respect of the Queen who was strong advocacy of good governance.

The special sitting was attended by a delegation from the British High Commission in Uganda led by the British High Commissioner in Uganda in Uganda, Kate Airey.
