Kibuku, Uganda — Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has announced that government will construct a district hospital for Kibuku, part of broader efforts to improve healthcare and social services in the district.
Among said it is government’s responsibility to ensure every constituency has at least a Health Centre IV, adding that the absence of a district hospital in Kibuku would soon be addressed.
“Because you do not have a district hospital, government is going to give you one,” she said. “It is our plan as government that every constituency must have a Health Centre IV.”
She added that the Government also plans to upgrade existing lower-level health centres to strengthen local service delivery.
Among highlighted the Parish Development Model (PDM) as a key government programme to tackle poverty and empower communities.
“Government has brought PDM, and your money for PDM is supposed to be your money,” she said. “You borrow it, use it productively, and return it to your Saccos so others can benefit.”
She revealed that PDM funding has been increased by UGX 15 million per parish to improve local monitoring and accountability.
Citing her home district of Bukedea, Among said community cooperatives and small-scale capital support had transformed livelihoods there — a model she hopes to replicate in Kibuku.
Among also reaffirmed government’s commitment to free education, urging parents to ensure all children — especially girls — remain in school.
“Let’s not leave our girls fetching water while boys are at school,” she said. “We are moving toward total free education in primary and secondary schools.”
As part of her personal initiative, she pledged full scholarships for two girls from Kibuku joining Senior One at her Bukedea Comprehensive Secondary School, noting that an educated girl child is key to future leadership.
Among praised President Yoweri Museveni for maintaining peace and stability, which she said had allowed development, industrial growth, and women’s empowerment.
“We now have hospitals, factories, and schools. What we need is a mindset change — to produce not only for our stomachs but also for the market,” she urged.
She also cautioned against land grabbing and assured residents that government will protect land rights. Among concluded by urging the people of Kibuku to continue supporting President Museveni for sustained peace and progress.
