The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Local Government, Ben Kumumanya, has called upon Local Government Communication Officers to proactively communicate government programmes and interventions to the public, emphasizing that effective communication is vital for improved service delivery, transparency, and accountability.

Speaking at a meeting of Local Government Communication Officers during a one-day meeting held at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, to strategize on effective communication and enhanced citizen engagement, at the Ministry of Local Government headquarters in Kampala, Mr. Kumumanya underscored the strategic role of communication in ensuring that citizens are well informed about government policies, programmes, and development initiatives implemented at the local government level.

During the same engagement, the Permanent Secretary presided over the handover of laptops to the Communication Officers, noting that the equipment will ease their work by enhancing efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy in information dissemination.

He explained that the laptops were provided in fulfilment of a pledge made during the previous Communication Officers’ meeting held last year, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to equipping communication officers with the necessary tools to effectively execute their mandate.

Mr. Kumumanya encouraged the officers to use the equipment responsibly and innovatively to strengthen public engagement and promote a positive image of government service delivery across the country.

As he closed the meeting, he emphasized the need for wide dissemination of local government job advertisements to attract potential candidates, address unemployment, and fill vacant positions.
