Bill & Melinda Gates (CEO) To Visit (UCI)

The Chief Executive Officer of Bill and Melinda Gates foundation ,Dr Susan Desmond Hellman is set to visit Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) on Tuesday next week.
Addressing Journalists at (UCI) ,The Executive Director Dr Jackson Orem said, Dr Susan will be accompanied by the the President of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) Dr Gary Gilliland, based in Washington, Seattle-USA.
” As you know very well , Fred Hutchinson is the leading cancer research institution in the world “but this is not going to be Garry’s first time to be in Uganda , he has been here before, but this time around he is coming with (CEO) of Melinda Gates foundation ” Dr Orem noted.
Dr Orem reveled that when Dr Susan was a young Doctor in 80s and early 90s, She worked as Doctor at (UCI) in a ward called Soli Tumor , having spent many years without visiting the institute ,she has decided to come back to see the developments that have taken place at the institute over the years .
He said because of the experience Dr Susan gained while working at ( UCI) that probably propelled her career to the extent that ,she now heads one of the leading funding organizations for health in the world .
” So the fact that she can see the contribution (UCI) made to her career” ,that is a more reason she wants to make a comeback,” and see what Uganda cancer institute is like, given the information the people now have, on the turn around (UCI) has had in being now the center of excellence in Oncology in ,the East African Region “Dr Orem explained.
He also explained why Dr. Gary Gilliland, The President of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center will be accompanying Dr Susan to the Institute ,He said both (UCI) and Fred Hutch are having long time collaboration with the Seattle based leading cancer research center ,therefore the coming of both visitor’s is of great importance ,an indication ,that UCI’s record on the fight against Cancer in Africa is recognized world wide.
He said Dr Susan will spend the whole day at the institute to see the Infrastructure and other developments at (UCI)
