The eight months old Ugandan baby who tested positive for covid-19 is currently in a stable condition, the Ministry of Health has revealed.
The ministry made the revelation while responding to several allegations that have been making rounds on social Media about the confirmed Covid-19 cases in Uganda.
According to Dr. Henry Mwebesa the director general of health services at the Ministry of health, the baby, her mother and father were transferred from Iganga hospital to Mulago specialized hospital where they are well attended to, fed well and remain in stable condition.
Meanwhile Dr. Mwebesa says a total of 574 individuals who traveled from Dubai in the past two weeks have been identified countywide. Out of these 129 are in institutional quarantine.
“Of these samples were removed from 40 travelers who had covid-19 like symptoms. Fortunately all of the 40 tested negative for the disease.” Dr. Mwebesa says in a press statement.
To date, a total of 2,661 travelers including Ugandans identified as potential risk have been either under self quarantine or institutional quarantine. Of these 1,206 are under follow-up, 893 are under institutional quarantine while 435 are under self quarantine.
Dr. Mwebesa adds that a total of 1,431 high-risk travellers have completed their 14 days of follow-up and have been issued certificates of completion of the mandatory quarantine.
A testing center has been established at Mulago National specialized hospital mainly for individuals from Dubai, UAE in the past 2 weeks.
“However, other individuals who did not travel to Dubai in the above-mentioned period continue to flock the hospital causing several congestion and a lag in service delivery” Dr. Mwebesa says adding that this is currently being addressed by counseling and vetting of patients who are seeking for covid-19 tests.
