Following a Presidential directive to recall reserve forces and recruitment of Local defense units to beef up security in Kampala metropolitan areas, the Uganda people’s defense forces have today released the recruitment program for 24000 LDUs which will start on 25th September up to 1st October this year from Kampala Wakiso and Mukono districts. Recruits must be Ugandan citizens possessing an original national identity card medically fit and ranging between 18 to 35 years.
The spokesperson of UPDF Brig. Richard Karemire has said that applicants will be required to have a minimum formal education of P.7 to S.4 and warned them against fake academic papers. He emphasized that thorough screening will be made to ensure no bad elements are recruited into armed forces. Applicants will be required a certificate of good conduct with recommendation letters from LC1, LC2, defense secretary, PISO and GISO.
Karemire noted that the government has secured the 52 billion shillings needed to cater for this project and LDU placement is a full time job and applicants should not be engaged in other employment
Recruitment will be conducted trough seven zones; Kampala central, Lubaga,Kawempe, Nakawa, Makindye, Mukono and Wakiso district in 99 wards/parishes and 89 trading centers along major highways.
According to the programe all those interested must medically fit ,between 18-35 ,from P.7-to S.4 and must be recruits of the same area without any criminal record.
UFDF warns that any presentation of forged documents is criminal ,and culprits will be liable to prosecution.
Recruitment is slated to kick off from 25th September and end on 1st october 2018.
