Oulanyah commends Rotarians, donates Shs40m to polio vaccination

Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah has hailed Rotarians for financial propriety, saying the entirety of their existence has seen no corruption of whatever kind to their name.

Presiding over celebrations to mark 25 years of the existence of the Rotary Club of Kampala Central and the installation of new President Ivan Mwondha in Kololo,on Wednesay week.
“For all the time I have known Rotary, I have never heard any corruption by whatever definition associated with your name,” said Oulanyah.

The Deputy Speaker said should the country emulate the kind of selflessness and integrity the Rotarians employ in their work, Uganda will become a haven of prosperity.
Rotarians elect their leaders without lobbying and campaigns, practices Oulanyah said denote letting your record campaign for you, traits that are not found in modern politics.

Incoming President Mwondha voiced his readiness to face his new task, announcing the Club’s drive to immunise 25,000 children against the polio virus.
“We will be making the undertaking together with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and other partners. It is an ambitious project but we will do all we can to get this done,” said Mwondha, promising team work.

Oulanyah donated US$ 10,000 towards the immunisation drive.
Whereas polio is one of the viral diseases Uganda has been globally acclaimed for eradicating, laxities by authorities is causing a resurgence.

Mwondha said the club will conduct the mass immunisation as a way to remind parents and health care professionals to take the crippling disease seriously and to raise public awareness about the nearly forgotten but resurgent disease.

The club awarded long-time host of their events, city tycoon Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige (BMK) for his service to the club.
His Hotel Africana has hosted several Rotary events, and he has been one of the key contributors to Rotary’s Social Corporate Responsibility drives.
