Uganda Starts EAC Games 2025 on a High, Beats Burundi 4-1

Kampala, Uganda — Uganda started the 15th East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games on a high note, defeating Burundi 4-1 in the opening men’s football match at Phillip Omondi Stadium.

The victory was powered by Hon. John Lematia of Ayivu Division West, who scored the first goal, and Hon. Denis Ssekabira of Katikamu North Constituency, who netted a remarkable hat-trick, putting Uganda firmly on the winning track. Burundi’s lone goal came from Hon. Shabani Nimubona.

The EAC Games, which began on 6th December and run until 17th December, feature a range of sports including athletics, football, basketball, netball, volleyball, and tug of war. The multi-sport event brings together legislators from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, and South Sudan to promote regional unity, camaraderie, and healthy competition.

Uganda’s strong performance in the opener sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting and competitive tournament across all disciplines.
