Ki-Nywa Coffee, a premium Ugandan brand cultivated in Lyantonde District, was officially launched today by the Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda Owekitiibwa Robert Waggawa Nsibirwa. Grown using natural fertilizers and known for its distinctive sweet aroma, Ki-Nywa Coffee represents a major milestone in Uganda’s agricultural landscape, highlighting the country’s capacity to produce high-quality coffee for both local and global markets.

The brand is the brainchild of Lazarus Kinwamacunda, a visionary Ugandan entrepreneur who recognized the transformative power of coffee farming. What began as a small initiative has blossomed into a model farm in Lyantonde, now offering employment opportunities to youth and serving as a training hub for aspiring coffee growers. The farm has even drawn the attention of Buganda’s Premier, Charles Peter Mayiga, who praised its productivity and innovative agricultural practices during a recent visit.

Coffee is more than a beverage—it catalyzes economic growth and community development. Beyond its energizing effect, coffee grounds can be repurposed as compost, enhancing soil fertility and promoting sustainable farming. Studies have also shown that coffee consumption may offer health benefits such as improved cognitive function and reduced risk of certain diseases.

At the launch, the Deputy Katikkiro stressed the importance of resilience in agriculture, encouraging farmers to remain steadfast despite challenges. He also made a strong declaration that sugarcane cultivation would no longer be tolerated in Buganda due to its association with poverty and food insecurity. Instead, the kingdom is placing its focus on crops like coffee that can uplift communities and drive prosperity.

Introducing Ki-Nywa Coffee is expected to stimulate the local economy, open new income streams for farmers, and establish Uganda as a key player in the specialty coffee market. With its naturally sweet aroma and dedication to quality, Ki-Nywa Coffee is poised to win over coffee enthusiasts in Uganda and internationally.

The launch event attracted a wide range of stakeholders—government officials, farmers, and coffee lovers alike—who were all impressed by the flavor and story behind the brand.
