The Gazelles, Uganda’s Ladies National Basketball Team, has received a financial support from PostBank Uganda, in partnership with Crown Beverages amid the International Women’s Day celebration.
This comes after the team’s qualification for the AfroBasket 2025 tournament Championships scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast. The team was able to secure its place in the tournament following a hard-fought victory against Egypt.

Priscilla Akora, PostBank Uganda’s Head of Marketing and Communication, highlighted the need to celebrate women’s sports, often overshadowed by men’s.
Akora explained that the bank is committed to supporting excellence and resilience, values that the Gazelles have exemplified on their incredible journey to the AfroBasket tournament, and the 2025 Women’s Day was an opportune time to celebrate them and rallying behind them as they prepare for the tournament come July 2025.
Akora revealed that PostBank and Crown Beverages will provide UGX 5 million and 400 cartons of Nivana bottled water to support the team’s training.
“As a bank dedicated to fostering prosperity for Ugandans, we believe this contribution will make a meaningful impact on the team’s preparations. With youth and women empowerment as one of the key pillars of our Corporate Social Investment, this financial support also uplifts women in sports to accelerate the personal actions which is in line with the 2025 International Women’s Day theme Accelerate Action,”-Akora said
Appreciating Post Bank and Nivana for believing in the Gazelles, Rachael Ainamasiko, Woman Commissioner at FUBA, stated that it is a great honour that there are people who are recognising ladies in the game adding that it is an honour to basketball as a sport that it is being recognised.
She stressed that the support will be helpful as the team prepares for the AfroBasket Tournamnet
“We are going to have different camps for the National Teams but also then league is starting soon so this will keep the players fit and keep preparing for the tournament”-Ainamasiko noted
Gazelles’ deputy captain, Hope Akello, assured Ugandans that players will stay physically fit in the coming months to compete effectively in the AfroBasketball tournament, set for July-August this year.
“the league is starting and that will help us keep fit and I know the coaching and management teams will be able to come up with a plan best fit for us and I am sure we will have victory come August”-Akello noted
