Rape survivors from Kotido seek justice

Rape survivors from Kotido seek justice

Two women in Loposa Parish Panyangara Sub County in Kotido district are recollecting themselves after being sexually abused on Tuesday.
The women were allegedly raped by unidentified armed men, still at large after taking them hostage to a remote area near Toror hills, about 40 km south – east of Kotido town near the border with Napak and Moroto districts.
The two sisters were reportedly kidnapped by two armed raiders as they walked thorough a grazing area near Toror Hill, to the farm at Nyanga Green belt. This is the second raid reported in the area in a space of two weeks.
37 year old mother of four and her 25 year old sister both survivors of the sexual violence are currently struggling to cope up with the situation.
When eye witness visited their family , they narrated how two armed men led them to Naguruwok village where one of them sexually abused both of them.
According to the survivors, they were rushed to Kanawat Health Centre III in Kotido, where they are receiving psychosocial support and treatment.
Although the survivors said they do not know their attacker, they wish justice to reign and never live to see a repeat of such violence against women.

Eye witness has established that the case has not been reported to police but was reported to the army, and who tried to truck the suspects in vain.
Maria Nadio, the mother of the two women has called on the NGOs to support her daughters so that they can cope up with the situation soon.
Mario Lomeo, the Local Council one Chairperson of Loputuk village in Loposa Parish says this is the first time such an incident to has happened since in the 1980s before the disbarment of Karimojong. He strongly condemns such vicious crime.
Jesca Ataa, the coordinator Nakere Women Activist a local women rights group in Kotido has condemned his kind of attack describing is as ‘unacceptable.’
Ataa is calling for a thorough investigation into the case and has promised to follow up the matter with the police.
