The Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has called for a last minute facelift of the outlook of Entebbe International Airport as Speakers of Commonwealth Parliament start to arrive in the country tomorrow ahead of the 27th CSPOC conference.
Among inspected the preparedness of Entebbe Airport to manage the traffic of hundreds of international guests that have started flocking into the country.
As the clock ticks into 2024, parliament is in a final rap of preparations for the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding officers of the Commonwealth – CSPOC to take place in Kampala between 3rd and 6th January.
Addressing the press at Parliament today, the speaker of Parliament Anita Among noted that delegates have started checking-in while speakers are expected to start flying in tomorrow. She commended President Yoweri Museveni for the support.
From here the Among proceeded to Entebbe International Airport to inspect preparedness of the airport to receive delegates in the befitting honor. Airport officials made an assurance that everything is in place to manage delegates honorably.
The speaker impressed with the ongoing works but at the same time concerned with the slow progress of expansion works at the airport after learning that the new passenger terminal will not be available for use before 5th January.
Entebbe airport is going to be a hive of activity in January as Uganda hosts three international conferences including CSPOC, NAM and G77 + China
Among them called for a facelift of the outlook of the airport saying the facility needs to be painted again to meet the required standards.
Eng. Ayub Sooma the director Airports and Aviation Security urged parliament to support the expansion plan of the Airport that will enable Entebbe match to standards of other international airports
The speaker also made a visit to Monyonyo commonwealth resort which is going to host the CSPOC conference.
The conference will bring together speakers of the parliamentary of countries under commonwealth to discuss a range of issues to do with Democracy, Health Climate Change among others.
