UNOC Enters Cooperation With Chinese Firm to Develop Oil Experts

The Uganda National Oil Company –UNOC has today entered into a memorandum of understanding with China Oilfield Services Limited Uganda (COSLU) on Technical Cooperation and Joint Venture Cooperation Opportunities. The MOU prioritizes capacity building and skills transfer to Ugandan nationals in the Oil production sector.

While unpacking the memorandum of understanding today, at the Uganda National Oil Company –UNOC quarters in Kampala, UNOC board chairperson Emanuel Katongole noted that such partnerships are pivotal in Uganda’s journey to build national capacity in the oil sector development.

The MoU with China Oilfield Services Limited Uganda (COSL) prioritizes capacity building and skills transfer to Ugandan nationals in the Oil production sector and boost business opportunities for both companies.

Currently, COSL is the contractor in charge of drilling operations in Kingfisher.  Xue Xinfang the General Manager from COSL committee to good working relations with UNOC which will facilitate strategic training and knowledge transfer of Ugandans to be able manage future projects.

Proscovia Nabbanja the executive director of UNOC says they are looking at training UNOC experts in drilling skills engineering Audits, cementing among others. She underscored a need to tap into the experience of COSL as UNOC plans to venture into drilling operations in future.

UNOC is mandated to hold 15% participating interest as the Government’s Nominee in the Petroleum Production Licenses awarded for discovered oil and gas fields. There are currently nine production licenses, covering 13 oil and gas fields in which UNOC manages the participating interest of the State.
