Greater North Drops Interest For Speakership, Backs (NRM) Position
The Greater North Parliament group has conceded to NRM Central Executive Committee position and dropped interest in the position of the Speaker of Parliament despite earlier threats to boycott elections of the speaker if the ruling party doesn’t reserve the position for the North where the fallen speaker hails.
Addressing the press on Tuesday, MPs from greater North threatened to boycott speakership elections if the NRM Central Executive Committee don’t pick Oulanyah’s successor from the Northern Uganda region. However, following CEC endorsement of Anita Among, greater North legislators are speaking in tongues.
Lawrence Biyika Songa (MP Ora County) the chairperson of the Greater North Parliamentary group says the decision to boycott the speakership elections was passed out of emotions.
Songa conceded to CEC position and rallied fellow members from Northern Uganda to throw their weight behind the “Chosen one” Anita Annet Among.
However, some legislators from Northern Uganda have vowed not to step at the polling station in Kololo, saying they were betrayed by the NRM Central Executive Committee.
Meanwhile, other NRM MPs have spent the day celebrating CEC endorsement of Anita Among
