Tenants Want Landlord Tenants Bill- Signed

Kampala Capital City Traders Association-(KACITA) has asked parliament to task President Museveni to consider signing the Landlord and Tenants bill.
Delegation of (KACITA)who had appeared before the parliamentary committee on Trade chaired by Mbarara city south Mwine Mpaka to express their challenges during the current covid-19 lockdown told the committee that Landlords of arcades have refused to consider the plea of tenants by waving off rent during the past month of not working which is likely to affect operations of the business in Kampala once businesses come back to normal.
The spokesman of (KACITA) Isa Ssekito said that it’s even worse when landlords charge rent in dollars which is against the law yet all these challenges are supposed to be addressed in the Landlords and tenants Bill if assented to.
KACITA has also further informed MPs that Uganda Revenue Authority-URA is illegally charging revenue on imported textile in kilos which contravenes the East African customs treaty act and other regional and international treaties.
It’s from this that Traders have also threatened in the near future to sell clothes in kilos and in charge in dollars to the final consumers if URA doesn’t recede its decision.
Meanwhile on the issue of the lockdown either to be lifted or maintained, Ssekito said that KACITA supports the lifting of the lockdown in respect of the SoPs but urged the government to increase and speedup the vaccination process to enable full opening of the economy.
