The board member of the Uganda human rights commission Medi Mulumba is demanding the security organs to publish the list of all abductees as per the presidential directive.
Officiating at Uganda’s third universal periodic review on human rights by the national coalition of human rights defenders Uganda today in Kampala, Mulumba stated that its very sad to see that security organs have not made public the list of all those who were abducted during the electoral season.
He adds that the commission has used its mandate to engage all security organs to see that they start releasing all those who were arrested without any cases with them.
The UPDF political commissar, Gen. Henry Matsiko who was under fire from the rights defenders over the high handedness of the army and security organs asked the rights defenders to always be tactical as they execute their duties adding that the state is not kidnapping citizens but its using a new approach to pick wrong elements in society.
Daphne Teddy from the human rights department ministry of internal affairs on recognizing the challenges by govt to fully implement the recommendations made out of the preview says they are now employing new technics to see that the recommendations are implemented before the country submits its third report to the UN.
The universal periodic review is a process where all UN member states review their human rights situation and file their reports to the UN human rights council for review and further recommendations.
