A preliminary report released today by LAPSNET indicates over whelming numbers of rights violation of citizens by security agencies during the day of polling across the country as the legal providers confirm handling 511 cases across the country through their legal rapid response lawyers team.
Reading the impact of 2021 elections on rights access to justice and rule of law compiled by LAPSNET since nominations to the voting day, the executive director Sylvia Namubiru and the chairman board of directors Arthur Nsereko sight human rights violations among them violation of the right to personal liberty, freedom of expression and communication, right to protection against torture, violation of the right to life, violation of the right to access justice among others.
They further indicate that 56 lives were lost, over 67 brutally arrested and detained with high numbers (56%) reported in central, followed by Eastern, and Northern regions.
With all the irregularities, the lawyers insist that the election was not free and fair since it lacked meeting the globally set electoral standards.
Its against this background that council Nalukoola Luyimbazi is questioning the freedom that the president is boosting to have brought into the country.
